We are pleased to announce Dr. Paul Jobsis, Executive Director Coral World Ocean & Reef Initiative (CWORI) will be our special guest at our May 20th / Wednesday meeting from 6:30 – 7:30pm. We meet on the Upper Level Red Hook Plaza {address 6501 Red Hook Plaza, Suite 201}.
Has anyone ever had a negative impact to your quality of life when Sargassum clogs your favorite beach or boating area? Sargassum is a genus of large brown seaweed that forms floating mats in the ocean, providing critical marine habitats but causing environmental and economic challenges when it accumulates on coasts. CWORI conducts extensive Sargassum research and this would be a good session to learn more about Sargassum and potential uses for this.
The CWORI program aims conserve marine habitats and wildlife through rescue, rehabilitation, restoration, and research. Besides Sargassum Research, other CWORI initiatives include Coral Reef Conservation, Education and Outreach and Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation. CWORI internship opportunities are available. All these initiatives help safeguard our coast and ocean resources to ensure they are existing for future generations.
